Think Christmas the Next Time You Shop the Local Hardware Store

It's nearing the end of the season when the garden centers will start marking down their inventory to make way for holiday decorations.  What you normally may never consider for your garden, can make for interesting and unexpected holiday decor.  I made these silver birds out of garden ornaments from Lowes, marked down 75% at end of season, for a whopping $2.50.  They were originally an atrocious, terra-cotta brown and I covered them with a product called Rub'n Buff.

I must not have been the only person who thought the terra-cotta bird was atrocious.  It's no longer available.  It is now available in pale blue, shown above, which could be kind of cute as is, but I would still paint its beak silver with a paint pen.
