May Day Flowers

Tie a bundle of fresh flowers with string
or ribbon, slip on the painted sleeve,
and tie the arrangement on a friends
front doorknob or garden gate.

Use poster paints and 5"x7" watercolor
paper to paint assembly line style.
Don't put a lot of thought into the design.
Just paint something small on each
sheet of paper using only one color at a time.

Glue with white glue and paperclip to dry.
This was the apple juice container from
my breakfast yesterday.  The ribbon was
saved from a holiday gift last year.
Creating the arrangements the day before
makes delivering them early May Day
morning a breeze.  I stored mine in the
refrigerator over night.

Fruit makes a great container!  Insert a sharp paring knife, about 2" deep, where you would like to place the flowers and twist to create a hole.  Skewer the fruit with a twig and attach a ribbon on both sides for a hanger.

I used the wire off a spiral bound calendar from last year
for the hanger.  I skewered through a loop at the end
with a pussy willow twig to secure it to the pear.

Even a bag from the boutique down the street
can make a pretty arrangement.
Save a shallow box to transport your
arrangements, and stuff crumbled newspaper
around them so they don't topple over.
